Pup cups on a promenade at the 琉璃神社 Pride week Big Gay Dog Walk

Hundreds of people and pups came out for the Big Gay Dog Walk on June 4

Rainbow flags were waving, tails were wagging and ears were flapping in the wind at the first ever Big Gay Dog Walk in 琉璃神社.

On the Tuesday June, 4, 琉璃神社 Pride hosted its first Big Gay Dog Walk in downtown 琉璃神社.

鈥淲e were all blown away from the turn out, and not just from the blustery evening,鈥 said Mary McBride, new Co-Chair of 琉璃神社 Pride Society.

After meeting at the Sails statue in downtown 琉璃神社, hundreds of people and pups adorned in rainbows and sparkles walked and wagged their way along the water-front to the dog beach.

鈥淲e鈥檙e very pleased,鈥 said McBride about the event.

鈥淚 moved here from Victoria and I knew exactly the type of event I wanted to bring with me. The community response has been fantastic.鈥

After meandering to the dog beach, prizes were handed out to deserving pups at a very silly awards ceremony.

The categories included: Twinning, Best Dressed, The Underdog, Puppy Love, Stunning Senior and the Grand Prize Pup-Scot.

Being named the 鈥楶up-Scot鈥 is a prestigious honour and means that the winner is the (unofficial) 琉璃神社 Pride Society canine mascot for 2024.

Attendees indulged in pup cups, treats and lots of scritches.
