RCMP crack down on distracted driving in West 琉璃神社.

West 琉璃神社 RCMP handed out 33 violation tickets to drivers during a traffic enforcement campaign on March 13.

The traffic unit along with the BC Association of Chiefs of Police conducted the campaign throughout West 琉璃神社, with a focus on distracted driving.

Officers were specifically looking for motorists using electronic devices while driving as well as those who were failing to wear their seatbelts.

According to the RCMP, distracted driving is one of the leading causes of vehicle collisions in the province and according to ICBC, drivers are 鈥3.6 times more likely to be in a crash when using a personal device.鈥

This resulted in 33 violation tickets, including:

  • 20 for the use of electronic devices while driving;
  • Eight for failure to wear seatbelts;
  • One driver received a suspension of 24 hours for alcohol;
  • One Excise Act seizure ( The Excise Act, 2001, is a federal Canadian law that governs the taxation and regulation of spirits, wine, tobacco, cannabis, and vaping products, ensuring compliance with health and safety standards and controlling their production and distribution)
  • Three drivers for other Motor Vehicle Act offences;
  • Several other drivers received verbal warnings.

If you see someone driving dangerously or putting others at risk, the police urge you to call 911 immediately.  Non-emergency calls can also be made by calling the West 琉璃神社 RCMP Detachment at 250-768-2880.
