Revelstoke woman clinches 3rd in historic Red Bull Rampage

A rider from Revelstoke has left her mark on the mountains in Virgin, Utah after placing third in the first ever Redbull Rampage women's event. 

Not only did , a New Zealander turned Revelstoke B.C. athlete earn a spot on the podium, she also won the Mcgazza Spirit Award.

She was awarded the McGazza Spirit Award for her contributions to the women鈥檚 freeride movement, . 

Since it's inception in 2001, the has been only been competed in by men. 

This year, a new chapter of the legendary freeride event also featured a competitive women's category.

Redbull Rampage is an exclusive event only open to a handful of riders from around the world. The invitation to compete alone is a huge honour for athletes. 

Alongside Revelstoke's Brown, Vaea Verbeeck from Duncan, and Georgia Astle from Whistler, made up three of the eight female riders in the historic event. 

Three days before the unique freeride competition begins, athletes and a limited team of diggers are brought to the previously undisclosed location where the competition will he held. The three days are filled with sweat, dust and blisters as teams try to craft the most unique line down the mountain possible in a limited amount of time.  This year, the event took place in Virgin, Utah.

Each rider will take a unique line down the mountain, with some riders collaborating and sharing features. The athletes are judged by a panel and given a score based on difficulty, style, creativity and overall vibe. 

The men's event will take place on Oct. 12, with B.C., well represented, making up three of the 18 riders on the start list. 

Kurt Sorge of Nelson, Tom van Steenbergen of Vernon, and the G.O.A.T Brandon Semenuk of Whistler, will all be vying for a clean run and a spot on top of the podium.
