A severe thunderstorm alert has been issued for several parts of B.C., including the Okanagan and Shuswap.
Despite clear blue skies on Friday morning, Aug. 23, at 11 a.m. Environment Canada announced that conditions are favourable for the development of severe storms "that may be capable of producing large hail and heavy rain," as well as the possibility of damaging winds.
"Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year," the announcement states. "Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!"
In addition to the Okanagan and Shuswap, the alert extends to the Arrow Lakes and parts of the Kootenays, Nicola, Similkameen, South Thompson, West Columbia, Elk Valley and parts of the Fraser Canyon and Valley.
Updates will be posted to the website.
