The Sicamous Community Health Centre received a dose of funding from the BC Association of Community Health Centres for $115,000 that will help offset operating costs.

The Sicamous Community Health Centre benefited from a $115K dose of funding through the provincial government.

In an Aug. 16 media release, the District of Sicamous announced the centre received the $115,000 grant through the BC Association of Community Health Centres (BCACHC), with the funds being used to help offset operating costs.

"This funding will allows us to make a profound difference in the lives of our residents," Sicamous Health Centre manager Karen Eastland said in the release. "We look forward to continuing our mission of providing exceptional community health services."

The health centre has two full-time physicians, one full-time nurse practitioner and three medical office assistants and, in 2023, the service had a net cost of $62,000. It first opened its doors to patients in 2021 and currently treats over 3,000, a significant increase from the 1,800 seen in the first year.

"We are very grateful for funding from the BCACHC and are proud of the Sicamous Community Health Centre and the role it plays in our community," Mayor Colleen Anderson stated. "This grant funding assists our community as we move forward with providing quality healthcare to all our residents and the surrounding area."

The BCACHC is dedicated to supporting and advancing the development of health centres throughout the province, and works to enhance the capacity of those to provide comprehensive and accessible healthcare services.

"This grant is one way that the BCACHC team supports its member community health centres in collaboration with government and partner organizations," executive director Valerie St. John added.
