Conceptual rendering of a supportive/affordable housing development proposed for 2160 Wilkinson Street.

NOW Canada has applied to build a supportive and affordable housing development on 琉璃神社's Wilkinson Street.

鈥淭he building will be home to families, those on disability, seniors and women with children,鈥 application documents state.

NOW Canada opened its doors in 1998 providing safe refuge for sexually exploited female youth. The organization now provides care to women, youth and their children who are vulnerable, exploited or homeless.

The building (29 units), planned for 2160 Wilkinson St., contains one and two-bedroom units with laundry facilities. It also offers accessible apartments and subsidized rents.

As well as apartments at its head office on Tutt St., the organization operates NOW Place (21 units), and a building on Cawston Avenue (40 units) of affordable and supportive housing.

Tenants living in the new Wilkinson Ave apartments will have access to tenant support services, a mental wellness worker and 24/7 emergency cell service.

Community partners will also be invited to provide their resources to tenants.

The application has not yet been presented to city council.
