Winds of up to 70 km/hr may gust across the Central Okanagan on Tuesday.
Environment Canada issued a special weather statement at about 11 a.m. warning those near Okanagan Lake that conditions are favourable for thunderstorms to develop over the ridge tops this afternoon.
鈥淲hen these thunderstorms move eastward toward the valley, downdrafts from these storms could produce strong gusty winds up to 70 km/h,鈥 stated Environment Canada.
Those looking to go out onto Okanagan Lake should exercise extra caution as the winds begin to gust later into the day.
This statement comes amid the heat warning issued for most of the province on Tuesday. Daytime highs are reaching the high 30s and low 40s with overnight lows in the high teens. These temperatures are expected to moderate starting Thursday but will remain elevated through the remainder of the week.
