The International Transgender Day of Visibility will be celebrated in 琉璃神社 on March 31, at the Laurel Packing House.
The event is hosted by a 琉璃神社-based organization dedicated to amplifying 2SLGBTQIA+ voices and driving positive change.
The third annual Trans Day of Visibility event will be held at the Laurel Packinghouse at 6p.m., and the theme of the event is Together in Celebration: Unbreakable in Solidarity.
"This day for me means being visible and proud of who you are," said Dee McWatters, who is, among many things, a human rights advocate, transgender woman and the vice president of Advocacy Canada.
McWatters said that it is because of the hate and misinformation that surrounds transgender, gender-fluid, non-binary and intersex people, that it is important that allies, role models and advocates continue to be visible loud and proud.
"There is nothing wrong with you, you are completely normal. Keep doing the things that you love."
The evening will include speeches, performances by local artists, treats and beverages.
Tickets are free for those who are younger than 17 and general admission is by donation with a suggested minimum donation of $10. However, no one will be turned away due to lack of funds.
