A City of Winnipeg transit bus display an emergency message.

A transit bus flashing 鈥淪OS Call 911鈥 on its display caused a bit of stir on 琉璃神社鈥檚 Pandosy Street Thursday morning (Oct. 24).

"BC Transit can confirm that an emergency message was displayed on the front of a BC Transit bus this morning," a media release from BC Transit states.

"This display was not caused by an actual emergency, and instead was a false alarm due to a technical malfunction on the bus that is being investigated. The organization apologizes for any confusion or inconvenience this may have caused."

The release says use of an emergency display is an extremely rare occurrence on a BC Transit bus.

"This sign only shows on the outside of the bus and is used only when circumstances on board do not permit the driver to communicate out for emergency assistance through traditional means."

The bus was spotted around 10 a.m. and the RCMP confirmed to Black Press Media a call was received from the public.

Police relayed the information to BC Transit.
