The West 琉璃神社 RCMP Indigenous Police Service sets off on a Youth Canoe Journey next week.

The four-day journey (55 kilometres) starts Aug. 26 at Powell Beach in Summerland and end at Bear Creek Provincial Park in West 琉璃神社..

There are 20 youth participating with adult members and chaperones from several communities.

鈥淭he goal of the journey is to help build a better relationship with the RCMP and aboriginal communities while educating Indigenous youth the importance of water safety,鈥 said Sgt. Laura Pollock, media relations officer.  This is another opportunity for the youth to learn about a possible career in the RCMP while on their journey.鈥

Youth will receive an opening prayer and the traditional smudge will take place before they embark on their trip.
