A stellar second and third period by 琉璃神社 Chiefs led to a 7-5 win over the Quesnel River Rush at Rutland Arena on Friday (Oct. 18) night.
The Chiefs were down 4-0 after the first period on Quesnel goals by Dane Dietz (1), Caden Cygen (1), Gage Parrell (2), and Evan Murray (2).
Matt Fraser (1) got 琉璃神社 on the scoreboard at 5:55 of the second period making it 4-1. Chase Gutor and Jake Kessler assisted. The Chiefs made it 4-2 about 3:30 minutes later as Ryan Mcauley (1) found the back of the net. Aiden Morcom and Luke Rishaug had the assists. Rishuag (3) made it 4-3 just over five minutes later with Matt Saretsky and Kessler helping.
Quesnel went up 5-3 0:12 into the third period when Isaiah Bagri (6) beat Chiefs goaltender Max Fowle who replaced Jedd Stybel at 9:30 of the first period.
琉璃神社 then reeled off four straight goals starting at 2:55 of the third as Morcom scored his second of the season making it 5-4. Bennett Kuhnlein and Parrell assisted. Rishaug (4) scored his second of the night 7:05 to tie the game. Own Miller (4) put the Chiefs up 6-5 at 15:39 of the third. Jonah Kaiser and Jack Libin had the assists. Gutor put the icing on the cake 0:38 later for the 7-5 win. Kaiser and Spencer Fowle had the assists.
Quesnel went through all three of its goaltenders during the game. 琉璃神社鈥檚 Stybel made five saves on nine shots, while Fowle made 19 saves on 20 shots. The Chiefs outshot the River Rush 46/29 and went 0/5 on the powerplay.
琉璃神社 put another check in the win column on Saturday (Oct. 19) night with a 5-4 overtime win against the Golden Rockets.
Jonah Kaiser (1) opened the scoring on the powerplay at 2:45 of the first period, with assists from Sam Lescabeau and Kaiden Sydenahm, giving the Chiefs a 1-0 lead. Golden鈥檚 Hudson Roach (1) tied the game at 8:51. Sydenham made it 2-1 Chiefs at 17:17. Matt Saretsky and Mathias Reha assisted.
There was no scoring in the second period, but the Rockets quickly took a 3-2 lead two-minutes into the third on goals from Chaz Jaeb (1) and Brayden Bissell (2). Just 1:30 later Gairen Bona (1) drew 琉璃神社 even with Sam Del Cin assisting on the goal. Deegan Bert (1) put Golden up 4-3 at 17:18. The Chiefs tied the game and forced overtime with a goal from Lescarbeau (1) at 17:55. Bona and Aiden Morcom had the assists.
Luke Rishaug (5) put the game away at 0:35 into overtime for the 5-4 win.
The Chiefs outshot Golden 46/37, with goaltender Max Fowle making 33 saves, and went 1/5 on the powerplay. 琉璃神社 is in fifth place in the
Bill Ohlhausen Division with 11 points and a 5-3-0-1-0 record. The Chiefs next game is in Merritt against the Centennials on Oct. 22.
