The UBC Okanagan Heat softball team fell short at the Canadian Collegiate Softball Association (CCSA) Championship, losing in the quarterfinals to the Western Mustangs by the score of 3-2 on Saturday, Oct. 12.
In pool play, the Heat went 1-2, losing to the eventual champions Durham Lords (5-0), and the Toronto Varsity Blues (6-5) before beating host Ottawa Gee-Gees 14-2 to advance.
The Heat were the third seed in Pool A and moved onto the quarter-finals to take on the Pool B number two seed Western.
In the quarter-final, UBCO was up 2-1 in the top of the second inning thanks to help from Cheyenne Simicak (Surrey, B.C.) and Mikhaela Muir (Okotoks, Alta.). That score remained in the seventh inning.
Just three outs away from advancing to the semi-finals, the Mustangs had a change of plans, as they scored two runs in the inning to walk-off the Heat 3-2.
Western would go on to win bronze at the tournament.
