After a tough loss on Saturday night, the West 琉璃神社 Warriors bounced back on Sunday afternoon.

On Jan. 13, the Warriors welcomed the Cowichan Valley Capitals to town, who were coming off an 11-2 loss against Salmon Arm the night before.

In the first period, after Matt茅o Lamoureux scored a powerplay goal to make it 1-0 Capitals, Jackson Kyrkostas found the back of the net 36 seconds later to tie the game. The goal was his 15th of the season.

Later in the frame, Viggo Nordstr枚m scored his fourth of the season to give the Warriors a 2-1 lead after the first period.

Cowichan Valley鈥檚 Matthew Swanson and West 琉璃神社鈥檚 Trent Wilson traded goals in the second period, making it 3-2 Warriors. The goal was Wilson鈥檚 10th of the campaign.

Capitals forward Gavin Giesbrecht took over the game for a stretch, scoring his fifth and sixth goals of the season in a 1:22 span, making it 4-3.

The Warriors stormed back as Kyrkostas scored his second of the game, followed by Michael Salandra scoring his 13th goal on the year 61 seconds later, regaining the lead.

However, with 48 seconds to go, the Capitals forced overtime as Darius Bachler scored his third goal of the season, tying the game 5-5.

And it took Cowichan Valley just 24 seconds into overtime to go home with the win when Swanson scored his second goal of the game, giving them just their 10th win of the season.

Justin Katz made 25 saves in the loss for the Warriors while Johannes L酶kkeberg had a great night offensively in his return to the lineup as he netted four assists. It was his first game since captaining Norway at the World Junior Hockey Championships.

Thankfully, it was a quick turnaround for the Warriors, as they welcomed the Merritt Centennials to Royal LePage Place for their annual Hockey Day in West K.

Kyrkostas kept his scoring ways going as he scored his 17th to make it 1-0 Warriors.

The Centennials replied with two powerplay goals in just under two minutes late in the frame, giving them the lead going into the second period.

West 琉璃神社 regained the lead in the second and held it for the rest of the game. Wilson and Isaiah Norlin scored goals, making it 3-2 Warriors after 40 minutes.

The offense then exploded in the third as they got goals from Salandra, Wilson, and Hughes on the way to a 6-2 win.

Six Warriors had multi-point efforts while Rorke Applebee made 17 saves.

Earning three of a possible four points in the weekend, the Warriors sit second in the Interior Conference with a record of 22-7-5-0, three points behind the first-place Penticton Vees.

After the game, fans skated on the ice with the team as part of Hockey Day in West K.

The Warriors have this upcoming weekend off as the BCHL All-Star game is taking place in Penticton at the outdoor rink at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 21.

West 琉璃神社 has two representatives at the event, forward Felix Caron and defenceman Isaiah Norlin.

West 琉璃神社 is back in action on Friday, Jan. 26 in Merritt.
