After working in ICU for 35 years, retired nurse Brenda lived with back and hip pain until she discovered Body-Wize鈥檚 structural integration program.

鈥淚 had tried physio, chiropractic and massage with some relief but I have responded best to Ross鈥 work. I wish I had started much sooner鈥. Structural integration sessions with Ross, who is relaxed and yet so thorough, have kept me moving and relatively pain-free since I retired. I highly recommend trying this form of treatment.鈥

works with clients to treat the whole body, eliminating or reducing pain for the long term rather than simply masking symptoms short-term.

A former RCMP officer who suffered life-changing pain, Ross Short was told medication was his only answer. Seeking another opinion, he discovered the Victoria Pain Clinic. After completing the 10-day live-in program, and responding particularly well to Hellerwork, he knew he鈥檇 found his new calling.

鈥淚 knew what I wanted to do with the rest of my life. I got into the next training session and the rest is history,鈥 reflects Short, who moved with his family to 琉璃神社 to begin his practice, 鈥渂ringing Pilates and Hellerwork to the Okanagan.鈥

What Body-Wize does and how it works

Short balances to address the body鈥檚 soft tissue system which wraps around muscles and organs. Through the process, he releases soft tissue shortening caused by emotional or physical injury, chronic stress or unhealthy habits.

鈥淣o one else does what I do 鈥 it鈥檚 a different approach to health,鈥 he explains.

Short says that with 93 per cent of his patients reporting reduced or eliminated chronic pain, his success rests in understanding, and teaching clients about, the interconnectedness of various body elements.

The diaphragm 鈥 our deepest core muscle 鈥 touches 62 joints through our core, he notes, suggesting the number of people experiencing back pain could be halved if people learned to use their diaphragm properly, through breathing and core strength.

And since our ankles bear the most weight when we walk, if those joints are misaligned, pain can creep into the knees, hip and back, even causing headaches.

Clients are typically between age 30 and 70, from high-performance athletes to those just trying to move through life pain-free. In finding their way to Short鈥檚 clinic, they鈥檝e often exhausted standard medical options in their quest for relief.

Key to finding relief is education.

鈥淚t鈥檚 educating people so they know it鈥檚 there,鈥 Short says, 鈥渁nd I want to give you the information to use the tools you already have, but don鈥檛 know how to use yet.鈥
