A Red Deer-crafted whisky has been named the world's best rye.

GrainHenge Arrowwood Whisky, produced by Troubled Monk, was crowned World鈥檚 Best Rye and Best Canadian Rye at the 2025 World Whiskies Awards in London, England this week.

"Competing against top distilleries from around the world, Arrowwood Whisky stood out for its bold flavours and exceptional craftsmanship, bringing home two major titles for Canadian whisky," states a post on GrainHenge Arrowwood Whisky's official Instagram page.

"Crafted right here in Red Deer, Alberta, by head distiller Garret Haynes and our dedicated team at GrainHenge, this 39-month-old rye is a testament to our passion, innovation, and commitment to excellence. With rich notes of herbal spice, creamy caramel and hints of cinnamon, it鈥檚 a whisky unlike any other. This win isn鈥檛 just for us鈥攊t鈥檚 for all whisky lovers who appreciate the art of crafting something truly special. Cheers to raising a glass of the world鈥檚 best rye."

Troubled Monk will celebrate its 10th anniversary this summer. An event with live music, food trucks, games and more will be held from 4 p.m. to midnight on July 26.

The World Whiskies Awards is presented by Whisky Magazine and aims to celebrate the best of whiskies from around the world.

"These awards celebrate the dedication, passion and expertise behind every bottle from distillers and brand ambassadors to bartenders, visitor centre managers, bars and industry communicators," states a post on the World Whiskies Awards' Facebook page.

"A global win means these individuals and companies are truly the best in the world, what an incredible achievement. Thank you to the innovators, storytellers and artisans who continue to elevate the world of whisky. "

Anita Ujszaszi, awards director, said it鈥檚 been "another incredible year" for the World Whiskies Awards.
