One person was pronounced dead at the scene after a two-vehicle collision closed the Trans-Canada just west of Salmon Arm, Tuesday night.

At approximately 5:45 p.m. on May 21, emergency crews responded to the scene of a collision on Highway 1 near 3rd Nations Road where a westbound pickup had collided with a semi truck headed east. The driver and lone occupant of the pickup was declared deceased at the site, while the semi-driver was uninjured.

鈥淭he investigation at the scene revealed that witnesses observed the pickup truck cross the centre line and narrowly missed a passenger vehicle before side swiping the side of the semi truck,鈥 Salmon Arm RCMP Staff Sgt. Scott West said in a media release.

He added that dash camera footage found at the scene confirmed the fact that the pickup crossed the line into the other lane and oncoming traffic, despite some earlier reports claiming the semi to be at fault.

No information on the pickup driver has been released at this time.
