$53K in Salmon Arm grant funding going to community groups

Around $53,000 in city grant money going to community groups. 

In a letter received at the March 10 Salmon Arm council meeting, the Shuswap Community Foundation (SCF), which administers the city grants-in-aid program, lists funding recipients from the latest cycle. Grant distribution is decided on by the foundation's Grants-in-Aid Adjudication Committee, of which Salmon Arm Mayor Alan Harrison is a member. 

"With $66,068.72 available, and requests totalling $99,527, the Committee faced difficult decisions," reads the letter from SCF executive director Roger Parenteau. "We are pleased to announce that 20 groups out of 21 applicants were approved and will receive funds in March/April following review by Council." 

In total, $52,950 in grant funding is being disbursed. Recipients are as follows: 

• Columbia Shuswap Selkirks Swim Club Society – $1,300 for 2025 Askew's Shuswap Splash swim meet; 

• Kamloops Symphony Orchestra – $1,750 for Salmon Arm Sunday performances; 

• Literacy Alliance of the Shuswap Society – $4,500 for Unplug and Play;

• Salmon Arm Bay Nature Enhancement Society – $4,000 for nature interpreter (student position); 

• Salmon Arm Sockeyes Swim Club – $1,500 for replacement of metal adapters for competition timing pads, and replacement of club tents;

• SAS Dry Grad Committee – $1,100 for dry grad;

• She Shoe Swap – $1,300 for fundraising event;

• Shuswap Association for Community Living  – $1,500 for automatic doors at community inclusion entrance;

• Shuswap Association for Rowing and Paddling – $1,600 for dragon boat festival;

• Shuswap Association of Writers  – $1,800 for young writers program;

• Shuswap Cardiac Society – $2,900 for cardiac rehab program;

• Shuswap Creative Makerspace Society – $5,900 for memory makers intergenerational projects; 

• Shuswap Minor Lacrosse Association – $2,600 to help grow sport, keep it affordable;

• Shuswap Music Festival – $2,000 for 2025 festival; 

• Shuswap Pipes 'n Drums â€“ $2,400 for drums;

• Shuswap Theatre Society – $5,000 for musical youth summer theatre program;

• Special Olympics BC Salmon Arm Local 2F – $2,700 for bowling program;

• The Chop Theatre Society – $800 for TOTE Festival presentation;

• Salmon Arm Agricultural Association – $5,200 for utilities tax;

• Voice of the Shuswap Broadcast Society – $3,100 for tower fund.
