A 琉璃神社 business had a close call early Wednesday morning when a stack of fruit bins and pallets of cardboard boxes went up in flames.
The fire, at the Sun City Cherries packing plant in the 4000-block of Lakeshore Road, did no threaten any structures but, according to the 琉璃神社 Fire Department, some overhead telephone and data wires were close to the flames.
Platoon Capt. Tim Light said two engines, one tender, a command vehicle and nine firefighters responded to the blaze, which was reported a little after 2:30 a.m. Wednesday.
One the fire was extinguished, crews remained on site to mop up and check for hotspots.
On Tuesday afternoon, firefighters responded to a slash pile fire on McKinley Road.
The KFD said that fire鈥攚hich required use of a command vehicle, two engines, two bush trucks, one tender and 17 firefighters鈥攚as put out after a report that at small portable sawmill was on fire along with several piles of cut lumber.
Light said the cause of the fire remains unknown but it was not believed to be suspicious. No one was hurt as result of that blaze.
The owner of the sawmill had left the property about an one hour before the fire was reported in order to go sharpen saw blades.
