A Lake Country woman had to confront a thief after he allegedly entered her vehicle while she was resting in the rear.
And that鈥檚 prompted RCMP in Lake Country to issue a warning and remind residents to lock their vehicle, after investigating a string of five thefts from vehicle complaints since last Saturday.
鈥淥n one occasion, the vehicle owner was actually still inside her vehicle when the alleged theft took place,鈥 states Cpl. Jesse O鈥橠onaghey.
On April 15, 2017 at approximately 10:20 a.m., a woman had been resting in the rear of her minivan, parked outside the Winfield Arena when she heard someone open the passenger side door of her van and climb into the passenger seat.
At first the woman thought it may have been a family member, then quickly recognized that the person was a stranger.
When confronted, the man replied saying that he thought the vehicle was his mothers and promptly left the area. The woman later discovered the alleged theft when she realized her wallet had been removed from inside her purse which was left between the front seats at the time.
Police say there were related incidents in the area.
鈥淎dditional, and possibly related, thefts were reported along Bottom Wood Lake Road, Woodsdale Road and even Read Road,鈥 says Cpl. Jesse O鈥橠onaghey. 鈥淚nvestigators have noted that the vehicles related to the thefts were not damaged, as it is believed they had each been left unlocked. RCMP wish to remind residents to lock their vehicles, remove any valuables or keep them out of sight and report suspicious activity or thefts to police immediately lest they become subject to in case they are damaged鈥 adds Cpl. O鈥橠onaghey.
The police investigation has revealed a possible person of interest, who has been described to investigators as a male in his 20鈥檚, of dark complexion, with dark facial hair, seen wearing an oversized white hoodie with a black insignia or design on it.
