Cab driver assaulted and robbed

Police are looking for the man who allegedly threatened a cab driver with used needles.

A taxi driver in 琉璃神社 was robbed and assaulted last Monday evening and now police are looking for the suspect.

The incident occurred at the intersection of Lawrence Avenue and Richter Street about 8:30 p.m. on March 27.

Cpl. Jesse O鈥橠onaghey says the taxi driver picked up a man near a business in the 700 block of Harvey Avenue and brought him to a location in Rutland before driving the man back downtown.

鈥淚t is alleged that the suspect physically attacked and threatened the cab driver when asked to pay his cab fare of over $45,鈥 states O鈥橠onaghey. 鈥淎ccording to the victim, the suspect allegedly choked, punched and threatened the cab driver with what appeared to be used needles.鈥

The victim sustained what police describe as non-life threatening injuries during the attack.

The suspect took off on foot with the cab driver鈥檚 cell phone.

He is described as:

  • Aboriginal man
  • slim build,
  • approximately 5 feet 7 inches tall
  • wearing a hooded beige jacket, jeans and a blue baseball cap.

RCMP have distributed the photo at the top of the story of the alleged robbery suspect in hopes the public can aid investigators with the identity of the man.

Anyone able to identify the robbery suspect or anyone with any information is asked to contact the 琉璃神社 RCMP at 250-762-3300.
