A Shuswap man was found to be armed and not dangerous after Chase RCMP investigated a weapons complaint.

At approximately 4 p.m. on Oct. 2, the detachment received a weapon complaint from a concerned citizen who reported a man carrying a pistol was walking near the Scotch Creek Forest Service Road north of the community. Officers responded and quickly located the man, who was cooperative and offered his weapon for inspection.

"He explained that he spotted a bear on his property and was trying to scare it off," Const. Sarah Van Wilgenburg said in a media release. "The pistol was determined to be an imitation firearm intended to scare away wildlife. It was not capable of firing bullets."

The man was reminded to be "mindful of appearances" when using the fake gun in view of the public.
