A Falkland man has been identified as the victim of a fatal crash near Revelstoke Monday.

Stephen 鈥楽teve鈥 Babij, 51, was killed in a , while driving a semi-trailer. The March 13 fiery crash occurred at 9 a.m. when an oncoming semi lost control crossed the centre line.

Babij鈥檚 dog, Zak, was also killed in the crash.

The driver and a passenger in the other semi were seriously injured.

The incident involved four vehicles as a third semi collided with the crash, unable to stop, while an SUV also suffered damage. The drivers of both these vehicles suffered minor injuries.

The fire-filled crash closed Highway 1 for the majority of the day.

Babij, who was born in Vernon, leaves behind his wife and step-daughter.

He was known as the 鈥榟ay guy鈥, hauling hay and other items throughout Alberta, B.C. and Washington.

鈥淣ever on time, but always delivered,鈥 reads his online obituary. 鈥淗is true passion was farming and he was also an avid snowmobiler. Most snowy Sundays were spent on Hunter鈥檚 Range with his close friends.鈥

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 20 at the Falkland Community Hall.
