An injured dirt biker is recovering after being rescued from the North Westside area.
Vernon Search and Rescue received a report of a dirt biker with a broken leg at about 9:30 p.m. Saturday about six kilometres off of Westside Road, behind Sugarloaf Mountain.
鈥淚t was way back in the bush. He was in a difficult spot to get into. There were no roads, just a trail,鈥 said Leigh Pearson, search manager.
The biker, whose age is not known, was packed out for some distance and then put into a truck for one kilometre. He was then transported in SAR鈥檚 patient response vehicle for three kilometres and then turned over to paramedics, who took him to hospital.
Pearson is urging dirt bikers to be cautious in the backcountry.
鈥淏e really careful. This is the third or fourth dirt bike accident we鈥檝e had in a week-and-a-half,鈥 he said.
The SAR unit returned back to headquarters at 2:30 a.m. Sunday.
