Three occupants and a dog managed to escape an early-morning blaze in their Vernon home.
The fire broke out around 1 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 12 in the 2400-block of 25th Ave.
Upon arrival, Vernon Fire Rescue Services crews were able to confirm a room on the second floor of a two-story house was involved in flames.
Firefighters quickly began actioning the fire and were successful in containing it to the upstairs bedroom.
鈥淔irefighters were able to quickly contain this fire thanks in large part to one of the children in the house who called 911 to report the fire,鈥� said deputy chief Alan Hofsink. 鈥淗is actions not only alerted firefighters, assisting in a quick response, but also helped to ensure his family exited the building safely.鈥�
BC Ambulance Service attended to check the residents for smoke inhalation and Emergency Support Services (ESS) was called to assist the family.
Vernon North Okanagan RCMP also attended to help secure the scene.
An investigation into the cause of the fire is underway.
