A vehicle incident that closed Highway 1 in Sorrento ended with a woman being airlifted to Kamloops.
On July 11, around 3:10 p.m., Chase RCMP received a report of a head-on vehicle collision between a car and a semi truck along the Trans-Canada Highway near the rest area by Lindburg Road, said Chase RCMP Sgt. Barry Kennedy.
One female driver was trapped inside the car, said Kennedy, and police, fire, ambulance and Chase road rescue personnel attended the incident.
Emergency crews had to extricate the woman from the vehicle and she was airlifted to Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops, where she was being treated for what police believed to be non-life-threatening injuries, said Kennedy.
Several witnesses reported seeing the car travelling westbound in the eastbound lanes on Highway 1, crossing the centre lane approximately 10 times before the incident, said Kennedy.
Police are not sure the cause of the incident or why the vehicle was driving in the wrong lane.
Kennedy said the driver of the truck attempted to avoid the collision but was unable to.
The highway was closed until about 6 p.m.
