琉璃神社 RCMP continue to investigate after the recovery of a vehicle that evaded police Sunday afternoon.
On Nov. 27 at about 3 p.m., an RCMP officer on patrol attempted to stop a vehicle with obvious mechanical defects in the area of Ethel Street and Lawrence Avenue.
The green Chevrolet pickup truck failed to stop for the officer and fled the area.
At 3:14 p.m., police received a report of a motor-vehicle incident on the 900 block of Fuller Avenue, involving a similar vehicle which caused damage to property and once again failed to remain at the scene.
Cpl. Jesse O鈥橠onaghey says the property owner observed the incident and followed the suspect vehicle as it left the scene.
In doing so, the homeowner鈥檚 vehicle also sustained minor damage after the suspect vehicle allegedly collided with his vehicle while attempting to flee.
O鈥橠onaghey says a short time later officers located the suspect vehicle abandoned on the 1600 block of Harvey Avenue. Police were unable to locate the suspect.
鈥淭he investigation remains ongoing at this time, which will include a full examination of the vehicle itself for physical evidence鈥 says O鈥橠onaghey.
鈥淩CMP have confirmed that the licence plates attached to the vehicle had been reported stolen in late September, however investigators continue efforts to determine whether the pickup truck itself was in fact stolen.鈥
O鈥橠onaghey reminds residents that police do not recommend members of the public follow a suspect or a suspect vehicle due to the potential dangers posed to themselves and/or the rest of the general public when those individuals are confronted.
鈥淭he RCMP asks that witnesses observe and if possible record the information and immediately report the incident to police.鈥
Anyone with any information is asked to contact the 琉璃神社 RCMP at 250-762-3300.
