UPDATE: Penticton street reopens after natural gas leak

Crews respond to a gas leak at the 300 block of Comox Street

UPDATE (4:45 p.m.)

A gas leak forced emergency crews to close parts of Westminster Avenue in Penticton, Wednesday morning.

At 7:58 am, fire crews responded to a natural gas leak at the 300 block of Comox Street.

Bylaw was called to assist with traffic control, city officials said.

The scene has since been cleared, with Westminster Avenue back fully open.

ORIGINAL (9 a.m.)

Emergency crews have shut down Westminster Avenue west of Power Street in Penticton, Wednesday morning. 

It is currently unknown what prompted the fire crews' response to the scene. At 9 a.m., emergency personnel were seen at the intersection of Westminster Avenue West and Vernon Avenue, in between the Bear's Den Restaurant and Murray Buick GMC car dealership.

FortisBC crews were also on scene.
