For the fourth time this month, Interior Health (IH) says a doctor shortage is closing the emergency room at Oliver's hospital.

The South Okanagan General Hospital's emergency department is shutting down on Thursday, Nov. 14, from noon until 7 p.m.

Patients can access care at Penticton Regional Hospital during this time, IH said.

Thursday's closure marks the second service interruption at the hospital since Nov. 9, and the fourth in two weeks. Last weekend, emergency services were unavailable in Oliver for 31 consecutive hours.

All other inpatient services will continue as normal at the hospital on Thursday, IH added.

"People in the community who need life-threatening emergency care should always call 911 for transport to the nearest available and appropriate facility," reads a press release.
