A month after it was first reported, the Calcite Creek wildfire south of Princeton is now considered held and the evacuation alerts for it have been lifted. 

The wildfire grew to cover an area of over 6,680 hectares before the BC Wildfire Service's Aug. 19 update to consider it held. 

A wildfire that is held remains active but is considered unlikely to grow beyond its current boundaries. 

As a result, the Regional District of Okanagan Similkameen lifted the evacuation alerts for the Eastgate and Placer Lake areas. 

The area restriction for wildfire issued by BCWS remains active, as does the evacuation order for residents in the Pasayten area. 

BCWS and local firefighters will be working to remove structural protection from private properties.

As of Aug. 19, Calcite Creek still had 73 firefighters and support crew on the ground, along with six pieces of heavy equipment and 10 structural protection personnel. 

The eight helicopters and air tankers assigned to the fire will continue to be used for reconnaissance and supporting ground crews with bucketing the fire.
