Failure to stop at a stop sign earned in a Salmon Arm man a 90-day driving prohibition, with his vehicle impounded for 30.

Failure to obey a stop sign resulted in a three month stop for the driver who was found to be impaired.

While on patrol at 11 p.m. on March 8, a Salmon Arm RCMP officer noticed a white Honda Civic fail to stop at a sign on Lakeshore Drive NE. While attempting to stop the car, it rolled through another stop sign before finally stopping at the entrance to a parking lot instead of in the lot itself.

"The 37-year-old driver was moving very slowly, slurring his words and had bloodshot eyes," Const. Andrew Hodges said in a media release. "The man was unable to locate his driver's licence, and claimed his last alcoholic drink was 'hours ago'."

The officer conducted a breath demand, in which the driver blew a "fail." He exercised his right to a second test, which also resulted in "fail" reading.

The man was issued a 90-day driving prohibition and had his vehicle impounded for 30 days. The matter has since been referred to RoadSafetyBC.
