A home in Armstrong was destroyed by flames Sunday, July 7. 

At approximately 2:20 p.m., reports of a fire at a home on Wood Avenue in Armstrong was made to fire crews.

The Armstrong Spallumcheen Fire Department battled the blaze for several hours, with four trucks and an additional two from BX Swan Lake Fire and one from Enderby. 

Occupants of the home were not harmed.

"I wasn't home, my family got out safe," said Amanda Fitzpatrick. "Our two cats are missing. We are hoping they got out."

One, named Midnight, is all black and the other is a tabby named Max. Both are tattooed and the tabby has a nick in each ear. 

According to Ian McKechnie, deputy chief of the Armstrong Spallumcheen Fire Department, "older construction styles and material caused the fire to spread rapidly to the rest of the building."

McKechnie noted that the hot daytime temperature caused additional challenges to the firefighters due to fatigue and overheating.

The cause of the blaze is still under investigation.
