A fundraising campaign has been set up to help the family of a four-year-old Summerland girl who has been diagnosed with leukemia.
Xena Vissani was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia in late February.
She was taken to B.C. Children鈥檚 Hospital where she underwent two surgeries, including one to put a port in her chest for chemotherapy. The chemotherapy treatment began soon after the port was put in.
鈥淪he鈥檚 had some compilations as her port was bleeding the other day and has had four blood transfusions so far,鈥 Vissani鈥檚 aunt, Judy Ormonroyd said.
On the morning of March 7, Vissani underwent another surgery called a lumbar puncture.
鈥淔or a four-year-old, it鈥檚 been a rough road and for my sister and brother-in-law, we know will only get worse unfortunately with what they have to go through with the chemotherapy and recovery,鈥 said Ormonroyd.
She added that the diagnosis and treatments have been difficult.
The family is also facing related challenges.
鈥淭hey aren鈥檛 sleeping, they can鈥檛 work, they have no income as they had to give up their jobs and had to give up their rental home in Summerland to be by her side,鈥 Ormonroyd said.
The chemotherapy treatments are expected to last six to eight months.
The family is expected to go to the Ronald McDonald House in Vancouver within the next two or three weeks as they continue to be with their daughter.
The GoFundMe campaign, Xena鈥檚 Story, is collecting donations to support the family. Since the campaign was started, it has reached $9,370 of its goal of $11,000 as of March 7.
