Getting colourful with the neighbours

琉璃神社's Lake Avenue neighbourhood to gather at Lake Avenue Beach Access to plant shrubs and add colour to some trees on Saturday.

A group of neighbours from the Lake Avenue Beach Access look to enhance their neighbourhood through a planting and painting project on Saturday.

With support from a neighbourhood grant, residents in the Lake Avenue neighbourhood will gather at Lake Avenue Beach Access from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturday to plant native shrubs and add some colour to five trees in the area.

鈥淲e were looking for a way to help nurture a more positive reputation of our neighbourhood beach access,鈥 said Dayna Margetts, one of the organizers of the project. 鈥淎s a neighbourhood, we wanted to get together, create something unique and eye-catching and get people talking about the beach access in a positive way.鈥

The neighbourhood group conducted extensive research and worked carefully with a number of City departments to ensure that a non-toxic and environmentally safe paint was selected for the project and that native plants were selected to be planted in appropriate areas.

鈥淭he City of 琉璃神社 supports the efforts of the neighbourhood and all the work they are doing to enhance their neighbourhood beach access,鈥 said Louise Roberts, manager of community and neighbourhood services.

Residents are reminded that anything hung from, or put on any tree on city property must be approved by the city. For more information, visit .
