The GolfBC Group announced on the weekend that a total of $150,000 was raised for charity at the inaugural GolfBC Championship held at Gallagher鈥檚 Canyon Golf & Country Club during event week of June 6-12, 2016.
With the help of generous donors, the Mackenzie Tour 鈥 PGA TOUR Canada event raised $75,000 which was matched by the Chan Family Foundation, GolfBC鈥檚 charitable arm, for a total of $150,000 and awarded to the tournament鈥檚 designated charity, the BC Cancer Foundation.
"We are absolutely thrilled with the reception we received from golf fans in the Okanagan Valley, along with terrific sponsors and volunteers. We are especially happy about the tremendous contribution made to the BC Cancer Foundation with the outstanding support of GolfBC. The inaugural GolfBC Championship was a great success,鈥 said Tournament Director Hugh Vassos.
鈥淥n behalf of GolfBC and the Chan Family Foundation it is our honour to be awarding this cheque today to the BC Cancer Foundation. I hope we can continue to build on this in the years ahead,鈥 said Andy Hedley, Vice President of Golf Operations for GolfBC Group.
鈥淚t means so much to see participants, sponsors and the community rally around the BC Cancer Foundation to advance cancer care in our community. The impact on patients is significant. It鈥檚 this kind of philanthropy getting together with research that is making a difference for cancer patients today,鈥 said Cynthia Waldek-Peters, Director of Development, BC Cancer Foundation.
鈥淭he goal of every Mackenzie Tour event is to create a positive impact in the communities where we play, and thanks to the hard work of the GolfBC Group, GolfBC Championship volunteers and Gallagher鈥檚 Canyon Golf and Country Club along with the generosity of the Chan Family, this donation will ensure the event makes a difference in people鈥檚 lives,鈥 said Mackenzie Tour President Jeff Monday. 鈥淭his is a tremendous accomplishment for the event鈥檚 first year, and we look forward to making an even greater impact for years to come.鈥
