Some local residents are not following the rules around fire bans.
Vernon firefighters have responded to a number of small, human-caused grassland fires and open burning complaints throughout the city over the past week.
In all cases, the fires were quickly extinguished and there was no risk to structures or vehicles. The fires are not suspicious in nature.
鈥淚t only takes a small spark to create a dangerous situation,鈥 said deputy fire chief Alan Hofsink. 鈥淲e are asking everyone in the community to remain vigilant and understand that despite cool temperatures and some precipitation, conditions remain extremely dry. We urge everyone to use extreme caution while spending time outdoors and be fire safe.鈥
The fire danger rating in Vernon remains at extreme.
