Holiday movie filmed in Summerland

Streets were closed as film crews used Summerland locations for filming

Film crews were in Summerland in late August and early September for the filming of a holiday-themed movie.

On Sept. 3 and 4, Main Street in Summerland was turned into a street festival for the filming of Christmas Blend. The street was closed to vehicle traffic during the filming.

Other locations in the community included the Summerland municipal building on Henry Avenue and a portion of Dale Meadows Road. Volunteer extras were also sought for the movie.

鈥淚t鈥檚 a great reminder how special a place we live in for it to be profiled in a storybook style that the world will get a small snapshot into this Christmas season,鈥 said Graham Statt, chief administrative officer for the municipality.

He added that the filming was pre-approved by the municipality, and that there are economic benefits resulting from having the film crews and actors in the community.

Summerland has been used as a movie location in the past.

During the summer of 2024, an independent film was shot in and around Summerland and 琉璃神社.

Previously, in July 2020, the community was used for the filming of The Christmas Yule Blog, where Summerland was used as a New Mexico community. Then, in October 2020, crews filmed The Angel Tree, using a portion of Victoria Road North to represent a Colorado community.

In 2001, the movie Lunch With Charles has scenes from Summerland, including some filming featuring the Kettle Valley Steam Railway and the trestle bridge over Trout Creek Canyon.

In 1978, Who鈥檒l Save Our Children, a made-for-television movie, was filmed in Summerland. That film featured a centennial parade on Summerland鈥檚 Main Street, which included the Summerland Secondary School marching band.
