UPDATE: Distracted driving to blame

UPDATE March 29:

A Kamloops woman was allegedly talking on the phone when she lost control of her car and rolled down a bank.

Police say the 24-year-old woman was scene talking on her phone moments before the crash.

On March 28 at 8:13 p.m., emergency crews rushed to the scene of the single-vehicle rollover on the 2700 block of Shannon Lake Road in West 琉璃神社.

鈥淲itnesses and markings at the scene indicated that the northbound white Honda Civic lost control in a curve, left the roadway and rolled down a hill before it landed on its drivers side,鈥 reported Cpl. Jesse O鈥橠onaghey.

鈥淭he West 琉璃神社 Fire Department required the jaws-of-life to cut the roof off the car to safely extract the woman from inside her vehicle.鈥

The driver of the vehicle was transported to hospital with what police believe to be non-life-threatening injuries.

鈥淲itnesses reported to investigators that the woman was observed talking on her cellular phone moments before the crash,鈥 added O鈥橠onaghey.

鈥淭hose witnesses, who rushed to the scene to help the woman, also located her cellular device turned on with a caller still on the line.鈥

The driver has been issued a fine under the Motor Vehicle Act for the use of an electronic device while driving.

UPDATE March 28:

One person was reportedly taken to hospital after a rollover Tuesday evening.

A white Honda Civic was headed northbound on Shannon Lake Road when it lost control, rolling several times down an embankment.

The Civic landed on its side and fire crews used the Jaws of Life to extract the driver who was then taken to hospital with unknown injuries.

The Jaws of Life were used to a free a passenger involved in a rollover Tuesday evening in West 琉璃神社.

Emergency crews were called to the accident scene off the 2700 block of Shannon Lake Road at about 8:10 p.m.

The condition of those involved is not yet known.
