The man who allegedly assaulted a doctor at the Penticton Regional Hospital in 2014 is set to be tried by a jury of his peers.

Selection for the 12-member jury began Monday at the Penticton Provincial Courthouse for the trial of Gregory Stanley Nield, 31, who pleaded not guilty to the aggravated assault of Dr. Rajeev Sheoran.

The alleged assault occurred in the Penticton hospital psychiatric ward on Dec. 5, 2014.

Nield re-elected to be tried by a judge and jury in October of 2016.

The trial is set to begin on March 28, with nine Crown witnesses lined up including Dr. Sheoran, another doctor, four civilians and three police officers.
