琉璃神社 residents will be asked for their thoughts about the future of the city鈥檚 Capri Landmark urban centre at one of three drop-in 鈥渃ommunity conversation sessions鈥 to be held next week.
The Capri Landmark neighbourhood (the area between Gordon Drive, Spall Road and Highway 97 (Harvey Avenue) and Springfield Road) is one of 琉璃神社鈥檚 major employment hubs and is growing to be an attractive location for apartment living, says the city.
Development interest in the area is high, which is why a plan for growth in the area is needed.
鈥淪o far, this area has developed without a formal vision,鈥 said Ross Soward, project manager. 鈥淚t boasts a mix of residential, commercial and light industry, and due to its central location, it could likely see some significant changes in the near future. We鈥檙e excited to work with the community to understand their goals for the neighbourhood and help shape its future.鈥
The drop-in sessions will be held:
鈥 Sunday, April 9 from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Parkinson Recreation Centre lobby
鈥 Monday, April 10 from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the Landmark 6 building鈥檚 lobby
鈥 Wednesday, April 12 from noon to 3 p.m. in the Capri Centre Mall near the entrance to the Independent Grocer store.
Also, between April 4 and April 17, those who want to submit their views online can do so at getinvolved.kelowna.ca/capri-landmark
Organizers say topics the public engagement process will touch on will include strengths and opportunities of,and in, the area, transportation, public spaces, neighbourhood identity and wishes for the future of the area.
After this first phase of engagement is complete, concept plans for the area will be drafted. The public and area stakeholders will have further opportunity this summer to narrow the choices down to a preferred option.
A final round of public consultation will see the preferred plan refined and finalized.
The final plan will be presented to city council for endorsement near the end of 2017.
