Lake Country drowning victim named

The BC Coroners Service has confirmed the identity of a woman who died in Okanagan Lake near Lake Country June 26.

The BC Coroners Service has confirmed the identity of a woman who died in Okanagan Lake near Lake Country June 26.

Her name is Arlene Susan Westervelt, aged 56, of Lake Country.

Westervelt was canoeing with a family member late on the afternoon of June 26, 2016, when their canoe capsized. The family member was rescued by a passing boater, but  Westervelt could not be found.

The RCMP Dive Team found her the next day, deceased, under about 12 metres of water about 24 metres from shore.

The BC Coroners Service and RCMP continue to investigate this death.

Westervelt's family has been notified of her death. On behalf of family members, the BC Coroners Service requests that the media respect their privacy during this difficult time.
