A Les Paul guitar is missing in action after a bold thief helped himself to the instrument from Acorn Music.

Store owner Cory Bagg said security camera footage from Wednesday, April 10 shows a man walk 鈥渨ith purpose鈥 past the front window, into the store and straight over to the guitars in the window display.

鈥淗e looked at the [price] tag, grabbed one and turned around and walked straight out with it,鈥 Bagg described, adding that an employee noticed as he headed back to the till.

鈥淗e went scooting outside behind the fellow and watched him proceed to drive away in a pickup truck,鈥 he said, adding that staff are instructed not to intervene.

Fortunately, the thief looked at the wrong tag and instead of taking the $1,000 instrument, he ended up grabbing one worth $300-400 instead, which Bagg described as a Les Paul Epiphone special edition in a matte black, brand new.

鈥淚t鈥檚 difficult knowing that someone is willing to do such a thing, but I鈥檓 very grateful that it was just the one off,鈥 he said. 鈥淲e鈥檙e glad we got some good surveillance.鈥

While Bagg filed a police report, he said he hasn鈥檛 heard if they鈥檝e had any leads yet. He did, however, say that he received some tips on Friday, April 12 from people saying the man had been spotted in Enderby, with several people also having named him.

鈥淚t鈥檚 kind of the principle of it鈥︹ Bagg said of the theft. 鈥淚t鈥檚 unfortunate, but it can happen. We鈥檙e thankful for Salmon Arm鈥檚 quick response in sharing the post鈥 we appreciate all the support we鈥檝e got out there.鈥

Salmon Arm RCMP Const. Andrew Hodges confirmed that the file is still under investigation.
