Police say a suspect who forced their way into a Salmon Arm Tim Hortons is facing a future court date.

On Feb. 27, Salmon Arm RCMP received a report from staff at the city鈥檚 west-end Tim Hortons regarding two 鈥渦nsheltered men鈥 who were having a fire outside when one of them 鈥渇orced his way into the store through the rear door.鈥

An RCMP media release said the man appeared to be focused on getting water to put out the fire, but wound up stealing an employee鈥檚 cellphone in the process.

鈥淰ideo surveillance was obtained and police were able to identify the suspect,鈥 said Salmon Arm RCMP spokesperson Const. Andrew Hodges. 鈥淭he next day police located the suspect, still wearing the same clothing as seen in the video footage, and arrested him.鈥

Hodges said officers also seized a cellphone matching the one stolen from the employee.

鈥淭he man was subsequently released on conditions, and with a future court date to speak to the allegations,鈥 said Hodges.

Damage at business

On March 3, Salmon Arm RCMP received a call about an incident at a business in the 300 block of Highway 1. An employee reported a break and enter attempt that occurred overnight. Hodges said no entry was made, but there was 鈥渟ubstantial damage to the building.鈥

鈥淔orensic Identity Services attended and examined the scene, and were able to obtain some fingerprints,鈥 said Hodges, adding two suspects were identified. Police continue to investigate the incident.
