A deer played a role in a highway collision that saw a motorcyclist seriously injured Tuesday evening on the borders of 琉璃神社 and Lake Country.
Lake Country RCMP responded to a report of a single motorcycle crash on Highway 97 near Commonwealth Road on Tuesday evening shortly before 10 p.m.
Police have determined that the rider, and sole occupant of the motorcycle, had been northbound on the highway south of the intersection when he collided with a deer in the right hand lane.
The 26-year-old Lake Country man sustained serious injuries, believed to be non-life threatening in nature and was transported to hospital.
鈥淭he man鈥檚 blue Suzuki street bike sustained significant damage and was considered a total loss,鈥 states Cpl. Jesse O鈥橠onaghey. 鈥淭hankfully the rider was wearing a proper safety helmet, which investigators noted remained intact.鈥
Alcohol is not believed to be involved in the crash, however investigators have not yet ruled out speed as a potential contributing factor.
鈥淩CMP wish to remind drivers to obey the posted speed limits and be prepared to slow or stop as needed for wildlife on our roadways,鈥 says Cpl. Jesse O鈥橠onaghey.
