The District of Sicamous is fired up to announce the recent appointment of its new fire chief, Lorenzo De Arcangelis.

The career firefighter will join the Sicamous Fire Department on Monday, April 15, after Fire Chief Brett Ogino retired on March 20 after 28 years with the local hall.

鈥淐hief De Arcangelis brings an extensive background in firefighting and emergency response to our community,鈥 Mayor Colleen Anderson said in a media release. 鈥淲e look forward to working with him and wish him all the very best of success. Welcome to Sicamous, chief!鈥

De Arcangelis brings over 25 years of diverse experience in fire services, including fire suppression and prevention, emergency medical services, hazardous materials management and wildland interface firefighting. Prior to joining the Sicamous department, he held leadership roles with Richmond and Vancouver Fire Rescue Services, and also served with the military in Afghanistan.

鈥淎 deep commitment to safety, excellence and active community engagement has always driven my career,鈥 De Arcangelis said in the release, adding that strategic planning, safety protocols, operational efficiency and community outreach will be prioritized to meet the current and future demands of the department.

鈥淲e will focus on continuous improvement, excellence and fostering solid and meaningful connections with those we serve,鈥 he said. 鈥淎s I step into this role, my leadership philosophy is centred on transparency, collaboration and mutual respect. I am committed to elevating our fire services to ensure the safety and well-being of every community member, tackling unique local challenges with innovative solutions.鈥

De Arcangelis also acknowledged he鈥檚 got big shoes to fill as he takes the reins from Ogino, crediting him for leaving such a strong department to lead.

鈥淭hank you for your years of tireless service and leadership,鈥 he said in the release. 鈥淎nd for setting a stellar example within the Sicamous Fire Department鈥︹

Outside of the uniform, De Arcangelis is a devoted husband of 15 years, proud father of two girls, and enjoys spending time outside hiking to create space for moments of reflection. He added that it was Sicamous鈥 unique charm and spirit that inspired him to apply for this position.

鈥淥ur family is excited to become active members of the Sicamous community,鈥 he said. 鈥淚 am profoundly thankful for the warm welcome, and I am eager to contribute to Sicamous鈥 safety and resilience.鈥
