RCMP were called to The Station building after a suspicious item was found Thursday afternoon.

A suspicious item found near a downtown business prompted a call to the RCMP's Explosive Disposal Unit Thursday afternoon.

Police were called after the item was found outside in the 3100 block of 29th Street Oct. 10 around 2 p.m.

Officers responded to the location (The Station building which is home to MP Mel Arnold's office) and cordoned off the area to ensure the safety of the public.

"The RCMP’s Explosive Disposal Unit was contacted and EDU officers were able to determine the item was not an explosive," said Const. Chris Terleski, Vernon North Okanagan RCMP media relations officer.

The item was removed and disposed of and the area was reopened shortly after.
