A Summerland resident is $2.2 million richer after winning the grand prize in this year鈥檚 Choices Lottery to benefit the BC Children鈥檚 Hospital.

Allen Delaney, who purchased ticket 1800163, was the winner of the grand prize in the annual draw.

Delaney spent $500 to purchase 20 tickets in the fundraising lottery.

鈥淚t鈥檚 my way of contributing to charity,鈥 he said. 鈥淚 think it鈥檚 a very good cause.鈥

There are a choice of eight prizes, including a choice of seven residences in B.C. communities or $2.2 million in cash.

鈥淣one of the properties were where we wanted to live,鈥 Delaney said. We鈥檙e quite happy with where we are, so we took the cash.鈥

He has made some plans for a portion of the money, including helping with his children鈥檚 mortgages, but at present he does not have plans for the majority of the funds.

Delaney was not the only Okanagan Valley winner in the lottery/

The 50/50Plus winner is C. Heinbecker of West 琉璃神社, with ticket 2668235. The prize amount was $832,882.50.

There were also two prizes of vehicles or cash and five prizes of travel or cash in the lottery.

Chances of winning the grand prize were one in 295,000 in this lottery, while chances of winning the 50/50 prize were one in 482,000.

Proceeds from the lottery, which is held annually, go to support research initiatives at the B.C. Children鈥檚 hospital.

According to information from the hospital, more than 85,000 children each year receive care from the hospital.
