Penticton resident Shawn O鈥橞rien didn鈥檛 need electricity to feel a massive jolt of excitement after checking his Lotto 6/49 ticket to find out he was $342,776.20 richer from the Sept. 13 draw.

O鈥橞rien, who was on vacation at the time in Meziadin B.C., had just woken up to a power outage and decided it was the perfect time to check his ticket on BCLC鈥檚 PlayNow.com.

鈥淚 sat still for a few minutes in disbelief and then checked it three more times to make sure it was real,鈥 the Penticton resident said of the moment he realized he was a winner.

The first person to find out about the good news was his wife, who was 鈥渟hocked and in disbelief.鈥

The couple celebrated O鈥橞rien鈥檚 win over a steak dinner and look forward to paying off the mortgage, thanks to his win.
