It's homestretch time for construction crews working on Penticton's controversial lake-to-lake bike lane.
City officials say most of the work on the 6.7-kilometre project will be completed in the coming months.
"The work is expected to be substantially completed by June, though work on the landscaping will take a little longer," city spokesperson Shane Mills said in an email.
With warmer temperatures this week, construction resumed on the final stretch of the project, located along South Main Street.
Starting March 3, bike-lane work will require closures to the northbound lane of South Main St. between Yorkton Avenue and Green Avenue.
Construction in the area will involve the preparation of curbing, according to the city. Southbound traffic will not be impacted.
The closure will be in effect through March 7, from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., with regular traffic flow returning each evening.
"As work continues in the area through to the end of May, intermittent road closures may be necessary," the city said in a press release. "Notices related to extended closures will be shared as necessary."
The city began work on its lake-to-lake bike lane in 2021.
Concrete barriers — cycling infrastructure that is currently being installed on South Main Street — have since been built on Martin Street, Fairview Road and Atkinson Street.
The bike lane, once complete, will provide a route for riders to travel from Okanagan to Skaha lakes.
