How a man came to lie in the middle of Highway 3 near Osoyoos continues to be under investigation by local police.

The Osoyoos RCMP stated in a press release that they had initially been called for a possible hit-and-run on the 7700 Block of Highway 3 at 10:53 p.m. on June 22.

Surveillance footage during the investigation, so far, shows the man was not hit by a vehicle.

The 51-year-old man from the Lower Mainland had still sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Witnesses initially described a white vehicle leaving the scene, however, it was confirmed to belong to a different witness who remained on the scene.

"Osoyoos RCMP are continuing their investigation to determine if there is any criminal liability," said Sgt. Jason Bayda, RCMP media relations officer. "Investigators are not looking for any other vehicles."

The man was taken to the hospital to be treated for his injuries.
