RCMP have seen a rash of thefts from vehicle throughout Salmon Arm, including on reported on Monday, Sept. 30, 2024.

Salmon Arm RCMP have seen a spike in reports involving thefts from vehicles.

At 10 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 30, police received a report from a 16th Street NE resident who said his vehicle was broken into overnight.

"The man reported he had multiple pairs of shoes, sunglasses and a jacket stolen," said Const. Andrew Hodges in a media release, adding police attended locations where they suspected the stolen items may have been, and spoke with two people of interest, but were unable to recover the stolen items or confirm identity of the thief.

"There was no video, or witnesses to the theft," said Hodges. "It was unclear if the man鈥檚 vehicle was locked or unlocked overnight."

However, Hodges said there has been a rash of thefts from vehicles, generally occurring overnight and to vehicles left unlocked.

"Incidents have been reported all over Salmon Arm, including downtown, Hillcrest and south of 20th Ave NE," said Hodges. "Police recommend having a 9 p.m. routine that includes removing all keys, door openers, cash and valuables from vehicles. Where possible, parking your vehicle in a secure area like garage is recommended, or a well-lit area."
